The Career Landscape Has Changed!
Consider the following:
- There were 46 graduates chasing every single vacancy in the UK in 2014.
The average level of student debt on graduation was £24,000.
- Ernest and Young has removed degree classification from interview criteria because it believes there is no evidence to suggest that it is an effective indicator of future success.
There were a record number of start up's launched last year. Youth entrepreneurship is a growing trend. Driven by desire, or by necessity, millennials are seeking new ways to develop innovative and meaningful careers.
Only half of schools have a dedicated careers counselor and often they cannot provide individual coaching due to time, cost and expertise deficiencies. This in spite of a proven link between career counseling and improved academic performance.
Nothing can be taken for granted anymore!
Schools, teachers and parents are responsible for giving young people the self- awareness they need to make effective tertiary education choices. Yet even these traditional touchstones of guidance are not able to fully map out each young person's options. Youth need to create their own map based on their experience of exploring the new career landscape.
Engaging young people to take ownership of their careers so they can facilitate their own exploration outside of demanding curriculum's is why they need Breakaway.
